Blue whales at Guadalupe Island

Location: Shark Bay, Guadalupe Island, Baja California, Mexico
Divemaster Buzz reporting as Captain Mike has gone camping on the shores of the Sea of Cortez in his bus. Had a routine passage to Guadalupe Island with 6 foot seas and a pretty easy ride on the Nautilus Explorer.  Despite an overcast day without the sun breaking through, we had almost perfect sea conditions on station.  Our guests were super eager and enthusiastic to see their first great white shark and were up VERY early and in the cages before 0630.   With 5 cages in the water, we  offer virtually unlimited cage time on these trips and uspect that one of our guests may well break the boat record of 31.5 hours of in-water time over the next 3 days.   We saw sharks almost immediately and had a total of 4 great whites swimming around the cages and making repeated visits all day long.    Spirits were high amoung guests and crew and we saw some good examples of great white shark behaviour wiht parrallel swimming and face-off’s.   Finished the day off watching a group of blue whales swim past!!!!
Weather: Low cloud in the morning and sunshine by mid-afternoon.   Air temperature 22 – 25 degrees C.   Flat calm seas without a breath of wind.

Water: Water temperature 21 degrees C or 70 degrees F.   Visibility 100 – 125 feet
