photos coming!! orcas might have killed a humpback whale calf right in front of us..

Transient orcas attack humpback calf at roca partida WITH nautilus explorer divers at depth to watch the tragic event!  We are on a Socorro trip and this morning started with several humpback whales circling roca partida with dolphins playing the the white caps.  on  dropping off the first group of divers, I noticed a mother, escort and calf humpback whale hanging around the north point.  as the divers got to depth, the dive masters realized that the mother and calf were the same pair that gracefully swam with our divers 2 years ago providing one of the best humpback shows on scuba ever to take place at roca partida, the whales stayed for 2 months!!!!  As our divers accended to there safety stop, they noticed a large camotion 50 ‘ away.  from the surface i saw a pod of transient killer whales steaming full speed for the humpbacks. at depth the divers saw the killer whales attack the calf, bitting off its fin! fortunately fo the other group of divers, thery were able to stay clear of the mother and escort humpback as they flew past our divers to try and save the calf.  moments later there was silence. the kilelr whales took off to the south adn then stopped about half mile away.  still not sure if they got the calf or not?  the mother and escort humpbacks are currently circling roca partida at great speeds.  all divers are safely out of the water and back on deck trying to put there thoughts together and soak in what really happened in front of there eyes!
